About Sun City:
While not the first age-restricted community in Arizona (nearby Youngstown is older), Sun City, the brainchild of developer Del E. Webb, defined retirement for a new generation of active and social Americans when it opened in 1960. And as Baby Boomers reach retirement age in huge numbers, Sun City continues to evolve and remain at the forefront of retired living. When it opened on New Year’s Day 1960, Sun City had five model homes—each priced at less than $12,000—to go along with a shopping center, a recreation center, and a golf course. Within a year, Webb had sold 1,300 houses, and his visionary community prompted Time magazine to name him its 1962 “man of the year.” Sun City today has 8 golf courses, 7 recreation centers, 120 chartered clubs and some 29,000 housing units. Retirees themselves have also changed. Boomers typically plan to work some in their retirement and enjoy Sun City’s proximity to the Phoenix metro area’s major employment centers. Around 6,000 Sun City Residents work and commute, while some are business owners who have the flexibility to move from place to place. Many are renovating Sun City’s original homes to suit their tastes rather than buying in the pricier Sun City West, Sun City Grand, and other nearby communities. We also serve Glendale, Scottsdale, Surprise, Peoria & Tempe.
