These include increased DUI patrols and sobriety checkpoints, which are stationary points at which police pull over drivers to check their licenses and observe them for signs that might point to a violation of Arizona\u2019s drunk driving or other laws. Patrols also focus on signs of possible drunk driving, but they are typically carried out from police cruisers, rather than at a single place.The department also plans to spend some of the money to buy new portable breath testing equipment. The equipment is designed to give more accurate readings of blood alcohol concentration (BAC) for people under 21 years of age and who are not legally allowed to drink in Arizona or any other U.S. state.
